How to Set-up the Phone for Your Personal Use – iPhone
You may use the study phone for your personal use for the length of your participation in the MAP ARC smartphone study. There are two general steps to take. You should have already completed setting up the phone by now. If you haven’t already, here is the link to those instructions: How to Set up Your Phone for Automatic Updates – iPhone
Note: If I accidentally gave you an Android when your preference was an iPhone, let me know so we can swap it.
Step 1: Getting a cellphone line
I have a cellphone line to transfer
If you already have a cellphone you can try to switch your sim card to the study phone and check if the phone took it before you go to your service provider to transfer it. It might save you a trip.
Instructions:
- Remove the sim card from your old phone
- Place the sim card into the study phone
- Re-start the device
- Make a test call to see if it took it.
- If the call was successful, move on to step 2
- If the call did not go through, you may need to go to your service provider and ask them to transfer your cellphone number to the new phone. The phone is unlocked, so any carrier should be able to take it.
I do not have a cellphone line
If you do not have a cellphone line, you may go to any service provider of your preference to obtain a cellphone line. Remember, we provide you with the device, but we do not provide you with the cellphone line.
Step 2: Transfer my data (Optional)
If you wish to transfer your data from an old phone, your cellphone service provider may be able to help you. I recommend you ask if you end up visiting them in step 1. Take both your old phone and the study smartphone. Don’t forget your Apple ID account password, you’ll need it.
Otherwise, you can do it yourself or with the help of some techy family or friends. Take a look at the instructions from Apple below.
